Annual Detroit Month of Design  will taking place from September 1st to 30th. Featuring over 90 events, it will activate spaces all over the city, with immersive design experiences including exhibitions, installations, studio visits, product launches, artist talks, tours, workshops and parties. Design Core’s 14th Annual Detroit Month of Design showcases the global impact of the city’s creative currents:

"Creative Currents amplifies the notion that for our region to prosper, we must be deliberate about creating spaces where the flow of information, opportunities, and creative solutions can move freely and equally"

The festival will start with the opening ceremony, which is open to anyone who registers in advance.

A multimedia exhibition by Lauren Kalman

First of all, you may visit an exhibition "Until..." by artist Lauren Kalman. It opens at the I.M. Weiss Gallery. This compelling show explores themes of loss, connection, and the power of the body to shape reality, featuring distorted clay vessels and video installations. As Kalman describes it, "Together the physical objects and digital video are a meditation on mourning, control, care, and destruction. The desire to hold close. The ability to smother. A cathartic glitch.” The David Klein Gallery hosts a new exhibition of Jack Craig's work on September 7th at 5 PM. He made furniture, lighting fixtures, and vessels made from bronzed stone, PVC, and molded carpet.

An exhibition of ceramic works by Benjamin Teague

A three-part exhibition of ceramic artist Benjamin Teague's work "Evolution of Connection" opens on September 13th and runs through October 19th, showcasing the evolution of his artistic process and emotional connection to his ceramics.

Inspired by emotional loss, references to film and art history, and the visual inspiration of daily life, Teague's vessels reveal how seemingly disparate occurrences, people, and things are interconnected and constantly evolving. This exhibition is part of Detroit Design Month, but it will continue its existence as a stand-alone exhibition after the festival ends.
